Disposable Cameras for Your Wedding Reception: A Quick and Helpful Guide

Placing disposable flash cameras on each table at wedding receptions is becoming more and more popular. It’s a simple way to let your guests take a more active part in the wedding ceremony, as they will use the 27 frames of film to take photos of the day’s events. At the end of the day, the bride and groom will have the film developed, and select photos for framing or add the photos to their wedding album.

If you are thinking of using disposable cameras for your wedding reception, you may be unsure of the details, such as the type of camera you need to buy and so on. For that reason, we’ve created this short, helpful guide to provide everything that you need to know to use disposable cameras.

1. Film Speed And Flash: Be sure to get cameras with a built-in flash and at least 400 film speed. These features will ensure that each photo is captured with the right amount of lighting. 400 film speed is the standard, and works well in most situations.

2. Design: Luckily, you needn’t settle for unattractive yellow or black cameras as disposable cameras are now available in a variety of colors and designs. It won’t be difficult to choose cameras that go well with your wedding theme. If you’re having a garden party, you can use floral print cameras; for beach parties, sand-colored cameras. The possibilities are endless.

3. Casing: You may be tempted to purchase cameras with paper casings, but be warned that these are not waterproof. If a guest spills a drink on a camera, that’s several pictures wasted.

4. Film: Color photos will capture all of your wedding’s details like the flower, favors, and centerpieces, and color film is cheaper than black and white film. Black and white film is more expensive, but black and white photos can make a picture look elegant and classic, even if the person taking the picture knows nothing about photography.

5. Brand New Or Recycled: Recycled cameras are a tempting option as the price tag is considerably smaller than those of brand-new cameras. However, bear in mind that since these cameras have been previously used, they may have defects. As a general rule, very cheap disposable cameras are usually recycled and not new, so bear this in mind when shopping for cameras.

6. Exposure: To make sure your guests won’t run out of film midway through the reception, especially if it’s a long reception, why not go all out and buy two 15 exposure cameras or one 27 exposure cameras?

7. Quantity: Now that you’ve figured out what kind of camera and film you’re going to get, you now need to determine how many cameras you need to buy, and where you’re going to put them. Typically, you can get one camera for each table. Some disposable cameras come with a decorative card that explains how to use the camera, which is very useful for the guests.

8. Expiration Date: Planning ahead for your wedding is great, but make sure that you don’t buy the cameras too far before the wedding date. Cameras usually have an expiration date of 1 to 2 years. If you’re buying your cameras ahead of time, be sure to store them in a safe place, away from light, heat and moisture.

9. Taking Photos: Some of your guests may be too timid to be the first ones to take pictures, so you may want to set the ball rolling by having someone, like a bridesmaid or groomsman, take the first pictures. make sure that the person you choose to perform this task explains to guests how to use the cameras and to remind them to leave the camera behind. If you’d rather not burden a member of your wedding party with this task, you can ask your DJ to make an announcement.

10. Collecting The Cameras: Excited as you may be to leave for the hotel or your honeymoon, don’t forget the cameras! Assign the task of collecting the cameras to one of the wedding attendants before the reception ends. If you’re leaving for your honeymoon right after the reception, you can ask a friend to collect the cameras and have the film developed. This way, the photos will be ready for you to view as soon as you return.
