How to Make Sure Your Wedding is Romantic From “Will You” to the Honeymoon

A wedding isn’t a wedding if there’s no romance.  A romantic wedding may sound redundant, but there are some special touches to make that big day even more romantic.  It takes time organization, some fresh ideas, and patience to turn a wedding into a romantic wedding.  Above all, a romantic wedding should be fun.  If every detail doesn’t spell perfection, then go with the flow.  Romantic weddings should be as stress free as possible.

The Wedding Dress

The first romantic thought (of the bride)  that comes to mind when thinking of a romantic wedding is the wedding dress.  It’s hard to imagine that any wedding gown is not romantic, but to make the wedding truly romantic the wedding gown must have its own special story.

Vintage gowns take us back in time.  Their delicate, feminine, and have a romantic history.  A romantic wedding dress could be handed down from generation to generation,  not only adding the romance angle, but also the loving family connection.

A romantic wedding dress might even come from the groom’s side of the family.  Don’t dismiss a family member’s generous offer until you’ve seen for yourself.  It could be the romantic wedding dress of your dreams.  If it isn’t for you, then be tactful and appreciative of the kind suggestion.

Don’t be afraid to add your own personal touches to a family member’s romantic wedding dress.  A wedding dress is a personal choice and no one wants to wear someone else’s dress unless she makes it her own for her romantic wedding.

If vintage and family heirlooms are not your idea of a romantic wedding dress, then go the traditional route to the bridal shops.  Sales clerks will be more than happy to help you find the romantic wedding dress that’s just right for you.

Some romantic touches to romantic wedding dresses are lace, pearls,  flowing chiffon, satin, beads, or  velvet.  A wedding dress may seem outdated and old-fashioned, but by adding something meaningful and personal that wedding dress can become your very own romantic wedding dress.  And remember, the day is not about the dress, the day is about the two people in love and are committing themselves to one another.  With that thought in mind,  the bride will be wearing the romantic wedding dress for that romantic wedding.

The Wedding Ceremony

When planning a romantic wedding, some of the first things that come to mind is the of course the dress, the cake, the flowers, the music, the photographer.  It is unfortunate that young couples in love when preparing for their romantic wedding, often plan the ceremony last.  They’ve checked everything off their list as the day draws closer and closer.  Then their wedding planner or the bride’s mother wants to know who is their wedding minister.

They were so organized, so prepared, but one of the most important pieces of the puzzle is missing.  Who will perform their romantic wedding ceremony?  Don’t let this happen to you.  Choose your minister early and consult with him or her in order to plan a romantic ceremony tailored for the bride and groom.

A romantic wedding will require romantic wedding vows.  A professional wedding minister will allow a couple to pick and choose the perfect romantic vows.  He or she will also have romantic ideas to add to the ceremony.

Some very romantic ideas for the romantic wedding are the unity candle.  It is very traditional, but a nice romantic touch to a romantic ceremony.  Some couples may opt for something more contemporary for their romantic wedding such as the “hands ceremony”  or the “sand ceremony.”

Another romantic idea for the romantic wedding is each person writing his or her vows.  When couples speak to one another and vow to spend their lives together by intertwining their memories and what the future holds for them, that  romantic wedding truly leaves a last impression on the couple, family, and guests.

Romantic wedding ideas should be meaningful and personal to the couple.  The bride and groom should look back to their first date, their first kiss.  Are there some romantic ideas from those memories that could be incorporated into the romantic wedding ceremony?

Romantic weddings could be theme-based.  A fairy tale wedding is a romantic idea for a romantic wedding.  Again, if the romantic wedding is theme based, it should be meaningful, personal, and relevant to the wedding.  For instance, don’t have a winter wonderland wedding in the middle of the summer.  You’ve got the idea.  Yes, the romantic wedding day is the couple’s day, but who wants their guests  feeling uncomfortable and confused.  So keep it relevant.

Romantic wedding ideas are everywhere.  A wedding planner is an expert at what makes a wedding a romantic wedding.  He or she will have tons of romantic ideas to make your romantic wedding the day of your dreams.

Wedding Music

Nothing says romance quite like music.  Wedding music has come a long way from the tunes of “I Love You Truly” and “Oh Promise Me.”  And thank goodness.  While these are very old-fashioned songs, there is nothing wrong with this kind of music.  But there is a world of romantic music out there that will make the romantic wedding everything it should be.

Romantic wedding music should be chosen primarily by the couple.  It’s find to allow mom’s and siblings to tag along, but  others can  be too vocal.  One may love this song, but hate another.  When picking out romantic music, the fewer the people the better.  Don’t turn something fun into a stressful situation.

This is beginning to sound like a broken record (pardon the pun), but romantic music should be meaningful to the bride and groom.  What song was playing when you first met?  What song to do hear on your first date?  Again, relevance is a key.  Not a good idea to the Rolling Stones, “I Can’t No Satisfaction” on your romantic wedding day.

Obviously romantic wedding music has as its theme “love.”  Shania Twain’s “From This Moment On” is an extremely popular romantic wedding song.  “Breathe” by Faith Hill is also a great romantic wedding song.  Lionel Ritchie can’t be beat when it comes to romantic wedding songs.  And if you like pop music, “And I love Her” by the Beatles is romantic wedding music at its best.

The Wedding Reception

Part of the romantic wedding is the romantic reception.  Music is important, especially if there is dancing.  For the couple’s first dance who wouldn’t love having Nat King Cole crooning in the background.  “When I Fall in Love” is an absolutely perfect romantic wedding song for this once in a lifetime occasion.

When selecting romantic wedding music, again consult your wedding planner.  The WP will make suggestions, but will also direct the couple to music professionals.  If your wedding location provides music, these professionals will assist the couple in finding romantic music.  At the reception, if a DJ or band is scheduled, consult with them as well when selecting romantic wedding music.

The most difficult part of choosing romantic wedding music is narrowing the selection.  There is a world of beautiful music out there, great songs, great artists, great arrangements.  Before making that final selection of romantic wedding music, plan.  Some things to  consider:  the number of songs, the artists, contemporary or traditional.  With some organization and  help from the experts, finding romantic music for that romantic wedding will be a piece of cake.

The Wedding Cake

Did someone say cake?  How about a romantic wedding cake?  Wedding cake is the focus of a romantic wedding reception, so in keeping with the romantic wedding, there should also be a romantic wedding cake.  Think about what you want your romantic cake to look like and even more importantly, think about how you want it to taste.  Of course, a great-tasting romantic wedding cake is a must and there are plenty of scrumptious choices out there.

Hearts are romantic.  Heart-shaped tiers play along well with the romantic wedding theme.  The shape alone is creative and decorative.  Keep in mind that romantic  heart-shaped wedding cake will have to be sliced.  Slicing a heart-shaped cake presents a challenge to the cutter.  It’s important to keep the romantic wedding cake pretty for as long as possible.  Just a thought.

Some couples may be of the opinion that a heart-shaped cake is much too obvious.  They may not think  of it as romantic as much as sappy or silly.  If a heart-shaped cake is not your idea of a romantic wedding cake, then go with the traditional shapes of round or square.  These shapes are much easier to slice and will keep the romantic wedding cake looking beautiful longer.

A romantic wedding cake couple be a family member’s special cake recipe.  Maybe Aunt Sarah bakes a mean coconut cake.  So coconut cake it is for the romantic wedding cake.  A coconut cake looks absolutely gorgeous in tiers and decorations are optional.  A coconut cake is a great idea for a romantic wedding cake because it looks so elegant and yes, delicious.  A coconut cake decorated with strawberries makes a lovely romantic presentation.  A word of caution if coconut cake is your pick for that romantic wedding cake.  Coconut cakes are heavy.  Don’t stack them too high.

Couples will be consulting their baker when deciding on their romantic wedding cake.  Wedding cakes are no longer just plain white cake with powdered sugar icing.  Wedding cakes have become works of art.  So if a romantic wedding is your theme, an expert baker can capture that idea, creating a breathtaking romantic wedding cake.

On the wedding day,  whoever is slicing the romantic wedding cake should get directions from the baker as to the size of the cut and where to begin cutting.  It is imperative to keep the romantic wedding cake looking for as long as possible like the work of art that it is.

One romantic wedding idea that is becoming more and more popular, is to serve guests (the same cake as the wedding cake) from a sheet cake for as long as possible.  This romantic wedding idea is as practical as it is romantic.  Maybe more so.  By serving guests from a sheet cake, a dual purpose is fulfilled.  The romantic wedding cake is intact for a much longer period of time, allowing everyone to enjoy the artwork.

The romantic wedding cake will not be quite as costly if it isn’t the size of the Empire State Building.  Remember when cakes used to be the height of a full-grown person?  Couples are moving away from that tradition toward the smaller cake.  And to be perfectly honest, a smaller cake certainly has a much more romantic feel than the Leaning Tower of Pisa (piece a) cake.

The Proposal

Before the romantic wedding, the romantic wedding music, the romantic wedding vows,  something else romantic MUST take place-the romantic wedding proposal.  In these modern times, it seems the more elaborate the romantic wedding proposal the better.  We’ve all seen them on tv:  Airplane writing, Lisa will you marry; on the big screen at a professional sporting event, Judy be my wife;  on mountaintops, on billboards,  the list goes on and on.  It’s amazing how creative some of these guys can be.  I hope they take their creativity into their marriage, making it a very romantic marriage.

Doesn’t it go without saying that a marriage proposal will be a romantic wedding proposal?  Usually I would say a resounding yes to the question. But we’ve all been witness the the scene where the poor guy has gone to a lot of trouble to propose and been turned down cold.  That’s definitely not romantic.    Here’s a heads up to the guys out there.  If you plan on a romantic wedding proposal, especially if the world is watching, make sure she’s going to say yes.  When watching this scene play out on tv, it makes me extremely uncomfortable when the girl answers in the negative.  I can’t image how the guy and gal feel.  Don’t let this happen to you,  guys.

So a romantic wedding proposal can be a big deal.  It’s nice to see a guy take the time and make the effort to surprise his girl.  When she says yes, it’s a real tear jerker.  It’s also a lasting memory to be cherished forever; a memory that can be retold to children and grandchildren.

This idea is old-fashioned, but romantic.  Why not ask the girl’s parents for her hand in marriage?  This is a romantic wedding proposal.  And it is also a great way  for the guy to endear himself to the future in-laws.  (This is another situation where a guy needs to be sure of the outcome.)    It never hurts to be on the good side of those in-laws.

Here’s my idea of a romantic wedding proposal.  A young man and his girl get all dressed up for a great meal at their favorite romantic restaurant.  He is gentlemanly in every way—taking her coat, pulling out her chair,  kissing her hand from time to time.  After a lovely meal, they take a long stroll under a moonlit sky; millions of stars twinkle.

After a short walk, a park bench invites them to be seated.  The young man places his arm around her, leans in, and gives her a sweet peck on the lips.  Now is the perfect time.  He gets down on one knee and says, “Angela, I love you.  I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy.  Will you be my wife?”

Now that’s a romantic wedding proposal.  What about the ring, you ask?  It all depends on the girl.  Is she the type who wants  to be in on the choosing of the ring or does she love to be surprised?  The young man should know.  However, with the  romantic marriage proposal described above, it is more than likely  it won’t matter.

It is important to have a plan when proposing marriage.  A young lady wants to know that her special someone has thought about how to “pop the question.”  A spur of the moment wedding proposal may not be the romantic wedding proposal that a couple has dreamed of.  If all of a sudden a young man asks a young lady  to marry him, it may have more to do with hormones than anything else.  Marriage is a big step and as many ministers say during weddings, “it is not to be entered into lightly.”  So guys, be sure that when you do propose  marriage that it is a truly romantic wedding proposal.

We now have an engaged couple and all the romantic wedding plans begin.  The bride selects her romantic wedding dress, the couple chooses their romantic wedding vows.  There’s romantic the romantic cake, the romantic wedding music.  There are tons and tons of romantic wedding ideas the couple wants to incorporate on their one of a kind romantic wedding day.  All of these romantic things can be costly, time consuming, and stress producing.

The smart couple though will organize, plan, and work together to make this romantic wedding more than just a spectacle.  This romantic wedding day will be an expression of their love for one another.  This romantic wedding will be time for family and friends, fun and freedom from the cares of the world.

The smart couple will consult the experts to help them carry out their romantic wedding ideas, so this day will be forever remembered as the romantic wedding they can look back on with smiles.  A romantic wedding will be the beginning of two lives becoming one.

Every wedding should be romantic, whether it’s themed romantic or not.  A romantic wedding is the culmination of planning and hard work and above all love.  A wedding should not be one of pomp and spectacle and pageantry.  A truly romantic wedding does not become overblown or the centerpiece of the day.  A truly romantic wedding focuses on the man, the woman, and the love they share.

A truly romantic wedding is based on relationships.  And not just the husband and wife relationship.  This is a day for fathers, mothers, daughters, sons, sisters, brothers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and dear friends to take time out of their busy lives to express love and friendship to one another.

This is also a time to discover new friendships.  Think of all the people who have been a part of this romantic wedding.  People who played a major role in seeing to it that this romantic wedding day was perfect.   There are others out there hoping for their own romantic wedding.  Those hard working people who made everything possible can do the same for some other lucky young couple.

A thank you should also go out to family and friends who played a role in making this a perfect day.  They did it because they cared.  It takes a village to create a romantic wedding.  So many loving and caring people came together with one goal in mind-to make this a special day, to make this the most important day of two people’s lives, to make this a romantic wedding.

If you are one of those lucky people, who is planning a romantic wedding, then congratulations.  May all of your days together with your loved one be as special and romantic as your romantic wedding day.
