Planning a wedding is a major undertaking if you haven’t figured that out already. And if it is not planned well, the wedding could be a disaster. Certainly, there are always two or three little things that may not go perfectly, but it’s usually not that big of a deal. But you can’t have major things going wrong or the wedding day could be a big disappointment. Many couples, especially in these cash strapped days, simply cannot afford to hire a wedding planner, making it all the more important to become determined to be successful in their DIY wedding planning. It can be done, and here are some ideas to help you along.
You can enlist the help of recently married friends or family members who will have many of the details of a wedding fresh on their minds. Their advice and help can be invaluable. But they won’t remember everything, and their wedding may be different from yours in some respects. So you can’t depend on them exclusively to know that all the bases are covered for planning your wedding.
That’s where having your own detailed wedding planner organizing book comes in. These book don’t cost that much but can save you a ton of headaches and worries. They outline every last detail that might be needed in a wedding. Maybe something as simple as the “something blue” tradition that you might have overlooked. Many of the items may not apply to your wedding, but you simply skip over those, or mark through them, and go on to the ones that do relate to you.
Not only are the needed to do items listed but a time-line for each item will be indicated. Some things should be done early, and other things are more last minute details. By following the time-line you will feel confident that you are making progress and yet won’t get discouraged when you think about how much has to be done. You just take it one step at a time as the book lays it out.
Some of the wedding planner books will also include more than just the items list and wedding time line. You will find helpful suggestions or wedding ideas on each item that you may not have thought of or known of.
Doing the work yourself using your planning book can save you a lot of money. If you paid a wedding director to do it all for you, it could cut into your wedding budget big time. You might however be able to use a wedding director on a limited basis. One thing that the planning book can’t give you that they could, is information and insights on local wedding vendors. You might see if they would help you in that area on an hourly cost basis.
To sweeten the deal for them, you might also hire them as you day of wedding director – because while you can do much of your wedding planning, when it comes to the day of your wedding, you don’t want to be a wedding director. Yet if your careful preparations are to go off without problems, it is advisable to have someone there who can be sure everything is taken care of.
