The Perfect Sand Ceremony Made Easy

If you don’t want to go the traditional route and want to have a wedding that is unique and memorable, why not do a sand ceremony? A sand ceremony gives you a great way to show your friends, guests and families how much you and your partner are united and bonded through love. The best part is, it’s easy! Here are some helpful hints to get you started on having the perfect wedding sand ceremony.

Setting Up. Take the time to find a great spot that ensures that each guest gets a good view of the ceremony. You can set up a small table behind which the officiant stands, and the couple stands facing each other with it in between them. You can also set up so that the officiant stands to one side and the couple stands side by side, facing their guests.

Set the scene. Do not just plonk a bare table on the ground and top it with a vase and a jar of sand. This will look shoddy and unplanned. Take the time to make sure that every detail of the ceremony is perfect. This is not as hard as it sounds. First, get a nice, small table that will throw the vase in sharp focus instead of a large table which will overwhelm the face. Use a pretty table cloth or table runner to accent it. Decorate further with flowers, shells, and other accents that go with the wedding theme.

Humidity of the location of your wedding. If it’s humid, the sand will clump together, so if you’re planning on having the ceremony in a humid location, store the sand in an airtight container. This will prevent the sand from clumping when you pour it into the vessel. Another thing you need to take note of is the texture of the sand. Make sure that the sand is fine and lump-free before the ritual begins.

Don’t make a mess. No matter how carefully you plan your ceremony, accidents do happen. To avoid that, cover the top of your vase or vessel with a transparent funnel. This is critical, especially if the container’s mouth is not wide enough for the bride and groom to pour the sand in simultaneously. To avoid looking awkward, you can ask the officiant to put the funnel in place just before you pour the sand. If you can’t find a funnel that matches the texture or hue of your vase, you can get a nice piece of paper, roll it up into a cone shape and tape it securely.

Practice makes perfect. Buy some extra sand before the ceremony so you can practice. This will serve as a “dry run”, helping you smooth out the procedure and avoid issues from occurring during the real ceremony. A good thing about getting the ceremony down pat prior to the wedding is you can concentrate on the meaning of the sand ceremony rather than worrying about making a mess of it.

Finally, to ensure that your wedding sand ceremony goes well, you can talk to your wedding planner and discuss the specifics.
