Confetti is derived from an Italian word which refers to candies given to guest during a wedding. The English meaning is not far, it is the small pieces of paper thrown over newlyweds after their wedding. First used in the 1890s, confetti soon became popular at weddings and at other events.
Their sizes can vary ranging from an inch to 3 inches, but they are also available in custom sizes and shapes. Custom confetti takes about 2 weeks to finish. The materials used are usually PVC and tissue – the tissue is biodegradable and comes in a variety of colors. In addition, the tissue is made from recycled material and made fire resistant.
Just imagine, as the bride and groom walks down the aisle for the first time as husband and wife, guests waiting at the door traditionally throw confetti. Fun confetti that adds pizazz to the wedding ceremony before the reception.
This fun wedding ritual have been modernized with a mixture of biodegradable wedding confetti for the environmentally – conscious people. Some samples are as follows:
- Wedding rice
- Bubbles
- Rose petals (other flowers will do)
- Doves
- Sparklers
- Feathers
- Butterflies
Note: Some biodegradable confetti for weddings is available in poppers.
Actually, rice have long been used by our ancestors to shower upon the newlyweds as a symbol of fertility and wealth. People living in the city shy away from this type of confetti since it can be quite messy afterwards; the grains can easily get wedged in between the crevices of the flooring. If that happens to be an elegant garden or grand church, well, you get the idea. Colored rice that comes in pastel colors such as lavender and baby blue are becoming trendy nowadays.
Metallic confetti shares the same problem with getting stuck, plus it is non – biodegradable. Glitter is another variation to metallic confetti, but they can cause skin irritation, not to mention they can be pretty hard to scrub away. However, if you are in a tight budget, you can mix the materials to add beautiful sparkle to your wedding ride as it is thrown.
Romantic flower petals are now becoming more popular with the masses. There are 2 ways to prepare the petals in case you want to make them yourself; the 1st one is to let them air – dry. The petals will shrink and darken. Keep them in containers until they are about to be used. The 2nd way is freeze drying which results to non – dehydrated and shrunk products, thus producing more natural – looking petals than the air dried ones. Petal confetti done this way is more expensive.
Materials gaining more popularity nowadays are ribbon wands. You can personalize these with your names, wedding dates, or other things to make your wedding more special that it already is.
