Winter Wedding Themes: The Warmth of Winter Weddings

Looking for wedding theme ideas – for the winter! Yet, rarely will anyone consider winter as season of love.  The freezing temperature is forbidding, and there’s nothing around but snow.  Ice has transformed the once lively environment into a still, lifeless picture.  There some animals that are roaming from time to time, but only a few try to challenge the harsh weather.  How can love exist in such a scene?

But beneath the seemingly “dead” cover, the unusual, white scenery actually shows a rare form of beauty.  Anything that is covered with ice seems to be encased in diamonds.  The snow successfully covers the ground, making it look like a white, endless carpet.  Unique snowflakes fall from the sky as crystals.  Even the bitter cold wind has become an “excuse” for lovers wanting to share a cuddly hug.  By looking at the other end, the deathly pale landscape surprisingly transforms into a beautiful panorama that one can only see in dreams.

For lovebirds out there who want their wedding to be just like that, magical and extraordinary, the winter season is willing to offer a little assistance.

Choosing the right place for your wedding is extremely important if you’re having a winter ceremony.  Unlike the other seasons, it is a lot safer to stay indoors.  The weather can easily leave your guests freezing out there.  But even on the inside, be sure to have fireplaces to help them warm up.

Always make sure if the guests are comfortable inside the reception.  In the middle of the wedding it can get a little hot even if it is cold outdoors, so be sure to lower the thermostat if necessary.  If you still want to have a good view of the winter snow outside even if the venue is indoors, then choose an inn with large windows or a glass roof.

Be ready to have curtains though, since the weather can easy shift from a shower of snow, to a terrible storm of rain or hail.  You don’t want guests panicking in your wedding, right?  Thus, it is mandatory for the wedding planners to provide a nice estimate of how the weather will be on the wedding day.

Although winter theme weddings are usually associated with white, platinum, light blue or silver colors, it still won’t be a sin to stray away from white palette.  But it would probably be better and safer if you have the basic colors around.  You can pick striking colors like red and gold, and combine them with the white background.  For decorations, you can use glass furniture to make the location seem to be carved from ice.

If you can manage it, then why don’t you actually use ice?  Guests would certainly love your winter wedding with these.  But one reminder, don’t let the warm temperature inside turn your icy heaven into a sinking Noah’s ark!  If you want, you can add snow as a decoration to the place, but if you’re scared that it will melt, fine salt can become a nice, clever substitute.

Make sure that all props that you will use would look similar to the real objects that you are portraying.  Use white tablecloth for the centerpieces.  Add a bunch of white candles of various sizes and light them to set off a romantic glow to the room.  Remember that in preparing this kind of wedding the rule is to transform the place into something similar to a winter fairytale.

For the winter wedding dress, the cold weather is not an excuse to be covered totally from head to toe.  You can still wear gowns that are strapless, just make sure the fabric is a bit warm inside.  You can also attires with fur sewn into them, providing both comfort and a sophisticated appearance.  You can also opt to choose those with embedded snowflake designs to show off your wedding’s theme.

For winter wedding flowers, the usual choices in winter weddings are amaryllis, calla lilies and roses. But for those who want to be unique, picking hydrangeas, ranunculus and boutonnieres would do the job.  Choose white ones for most of the bouquets, except for the roses which should be red.

Excellent food choices that can be included in the menu are hot chocolate, soups, sake (Japanese rice wine), cookies and other pastries.  Surprises for the guests can be done by serving hot white chocolate or shaping the pastries into snowmen or snowflakes.  For your wedding cake, you can ask the baker to add in designs of winter elements like a winter village and snowflakes, or you can add cotton balls around the cake so that it looks like it’s placed on some real snow.

Even in such a cold season, the warmth of your love can always endure.  The line’s a bit cheesy, yes, but it’s quite true.  Your life’s most romantic day is your wedding, so why let the cold stop you?  Add your own ideas of what a real wedding should be, and use the beauty of the winter season to improve it.

Fairytales can come true.  And a wedding with a winter theme can help you do that.
